About Us
by Donna L. Watkins
We have been using natural solutions for health problems since 1978 and it wasn't long after until we realized that natural remedies and natural food worked well for our pets also.
I was born and raised in Pennsylvania Dutch country. We didn't run to the doctor unless there was a serious health problem. Folks used home remedies for their families and animals.
When I moved away from home to a big city, I went the "modern" way, but it wasn't until I had my child that I realized that simple health solutions really made a difference for our finances and overall health options.
Changing our diets, and our pets' diets, was 90% of the battle to continual good health. What we thought were common problems for pets disappeared within 90 days and our pets rarely had a need for a visit to the vet.
We've always had cats. Before switching to natural foods and supplements, we lost the first cat that had adopted us. We've never had the opportunity to pick a pet. They've all found us. Having lost one very special kitty, "Cutie," because of urinary problems, we have been so grateful to have natural solutions available for our pets -- and to be able to share information with many others so they can keep their pets longer and healthier. The second cat that adopted us, "Princess" lived to be 20, the next 18 and so on.
Our
current cats were feral in the woods behind our home, when we
lived in Alabama. Shortly after Princess died, a black cat that
looked just like her walked past the breakfast area window. It
took me two years to even touch her. We called her "Kitty
Girl." She had her first litter of three kittens before
we could trap the kittens and get her spayed.
We
found homes for two of the kittens. The third one got away. A year later, we
saw him with those white boots and a white tip on the tail. We called him "Kitty
Boy." When we moved to Virginia a year after that we wanted to take them
with us since they had become dependent on us for food.
Okay, that wasn't the only reason :-) We enjoyed them since our home was "catless" for two years except for their daily visits. Randal had decided when the last of our cats died that there would be no more. His concern was for me since I have been highly allergic to cats but refused to live without them. It takes prayer and a handful of supplements to support my immune system, but they are totally worth it all.
Before moving we gave them real
names. Squeek for the mom who squeeked rather than meowed.
Skipper for the boy since he would joyfully skip across the yard
from the woods to us when we called with food. I must interject
that Randal still calls them by the original names.
They ate natural food in the woods with plenty of voles which they more than willingly would try to share with me and they enjoyed a few frogs from our pond and I don't want to think about the lizard races they had. Thankfully, they found those much more appealing than birds.
I'm feeling much better about their lives and the preservation of wildlife now that they're feeding inside on natural foods with added herbs and vegetables for "live" food.
The natural way has worked for us! That's why we're sharing information and hope with you. There are simpler ways to doing things in life. We live in a complicated world with bigger being better, and newer being best, but technology doesn't always fix everything. Sometimes it takes the old-fashioned way to get things done.
Nutrition is the basis of good health. What they put in pet foods is not food.
Thanks for visiting Healthy Pet Corner. If you purchase products from the links on this site, we would appreciate that too. We give to many animal welfare organizations and shelters every quarter.
Healthy Blessings to You and Your Pets!

P.S. Skipper went on to our Heavenly Cottage on June 15, 2005, having valiantly battled with diabetes which we realized he had when we took him in. Our lives revolved around him for a number of years .... but now Squeek commands our full attention, although she is rather independent and truly prefers little attention other than meals, a good brushing and head-rubbing daily.
