In your lifetime, try to be the person your pet thinks you are.

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why.-Unknown

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. - Abraham Lincoln

"Dogs need to sniff the ground; it's how they keep abreast of current events. The ground is a giant dog newspaper, containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news items, which, if they are especially urgent, are often continued into the next yard." Dave Barry

DONNA'S COMMENTS

While my sweet husband was gone for some time last week, I worked at
redesigning the Natural Pets area of the site. There was so much on one
page and it needed to be broken down into 5 pages. New information has been
added also and one of the new pages is "How to Give Herbs to Pets." If you
get a chance to check it out, let me know what you think.
http://www.theherbsplace.com/pets.html

It's good that my hubby has the computer that does the web site work, or I
would be tied to the computer wanting to add more and more. There is so
much valuable information for helping pets naturally.

Spring is on its way! Take some time to plan a garden!

HEALTH/HERBAL INFO

ANNUAL VACCINATIONS - Vets Don't Think it's Wise!
http://www.catcaresociety.org/shots.htm

SIGNS OF POSSIBLE DENTAL PROBLEMS IN YOUR CAT & DOG

1. Change in eating habit - teeth may be sore or loose
2. Pawing at face - possible mouth pain
3. Depression - Bacteria can overwhelm the body and make your pet lethargic
4. Mouth odor
5. Redness or bleeding along the gum lines
6. Dark or yellow teeth - may mean bacteria is in the bloodstream.

PREVENTION TIPS:

Set up a schedule to brush your pet's teeth. Be gentle and know that some
cats won't like it very much. The earlier you start, the better chance you
have at success.

Have a vet check your pet's teeth and gums during any visit.

Use a pet toothbrush, not a scraping utensil.

Use antioxidant herbs or nutrients to prevent degenerative problems

Feed your pet a natural and balanced diet. A good diet will prevent many
health problems: http://www.api4animals.org/petfood.htm

If you already have a case of gum problems, consider CoQ10 which has proven
success rate with humans and pets. Read more about CoQ10 and all the great
things it does at: http://www.theherbsplace.com/coq10.html

SUCCESS STORY

MULTI-VITAMINS

"I know a lot of people with pets (especially dogs) who have them on a
liquid multi-vitamin. I know that may sound odd, but I have been
flabbergasted at some of the stories I have heard about their (the dogs)
results on the vitamin. It is touted to be 98% absorbable and from what I
understand, the dogs just lap it up." Cathy

Liquid nutrients are readily absorbed into the bloodstream and utilized more
quickly. It's amazing what a little bit of nutrition will do for people or
animals. Nature's Sunshine has Liquid Multi-Vitamins for dogs, cats and
horses. Read more at: http://www.TheHerbsPlace.com/petsupp.html

BEHAVIORAL/EMOTIONAL ISSUE

ANXIETY or STRESS

When your pet suffers from stress or anxiety, you can calm him with herbs.
Herbs which we call "nervine herbs" will help to build and feed the nervous
system for an animal.....the same as they do for a child who's got too much
energy.

Chamomile is one that is well known. It's a good bedtime herb for humans
and can be used to calm a nervous animal. This herb is part of an herbal
combination called Stress-J which has been used for hyperactive children.
You can read more about it at: http://www.TheHerbsPlace.com/strj.html

Valerian Root has had a lot of research and we've had quite a few customers
using it for pets. One was a Rottweiler that was kept in a house that had a
home business. When the customers would come to pick up orders, the dog
loved to be the greeter - and standing up in honor of the guest :-0

The owners began giving him Valerian Root in capsules and after a week he
could get some benefit out of the obedience training he had taken. His
nervous system was able to obey. The funny part was that he loved his
pills. Whenever the owners would go to take their herbs, he'd come running
and beg for Valerian. I would've loved to have had a video of this!

Read more about Valerian Root: http://www.TheHerbsPlace.com/valerian.html

You can use essential oils to calm an anxious pet. Lavender Oil is
well-known and often used. You can put it on a pillow that he sleeps on, or
rub a drop or two into his paw.

Read more about Lavender Oil: http://www.TheHerbsPlace.com/lavender.html

Remember that a pet usually picks up the "energy" of his environment. If
you're stressed, you might want to try some of these ideas yourself.

PRODUCT FOCUS

ALJ FOR ASTHMA, ALLERGIES, AND RESPIRATORY PROBLEMS

This herbal formula loosens mucous to remove it from the body and aids
digestion to prevent mucous buildup. Many times mucous problems come from
food allergies because the food is not being digested properly, thereby
entering the bloodstream as a foreign invader.
Read more at: http://www.theherbsplace.com/alj.html

Note: We have used herbs and supplements with pets since 1982 and that was
before there was a market for "natural pet products." We've always adapted
to the pet. If you can administer in capsule/tablet form, that's great. If
not, open the capsule or crush the tablet and put it into food. You can
also brew the herbs as a tea and administer by dropperful or in water bowl.
Some of the herbs come in a liquid. Choose a product that will be easy to
use with the pet you are working with.
