In your lifetime, try to be the person your pet thinks you are.

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why.-Unknown

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. - Abraham Lincoln

"Dogs need to sniff the ground; it's how they keep abreast of current events. The ground is a giant dog newspaper, containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news items, which, if they are especially urgent, are often continued into the next yard." Dave Barry

DONNA'S COMMENTS

We're going to be out of town to teach and to visit with our son and
Randal's parents. That's why this has arrived early. And the next issue
will be a couple of days late.

Spring has truly come alive in Alabama and it's awesome to see how Nature
renews itself. Our little wild kitty that "lives" with us in these woods
has been sniffing at each blade of green that emerges. I guess she's
looking for something in particular. It is incredible to watch the
Creation.

Have an awesome week! And take the time to look at all of that green that's
emerging....Close Up!

Donna

HEALTH/HERBAL INFO

REVERSE ARTHRITIS

To help arthritis due to age or a skeletal problem such as hip dysplasia, a
good place to start is GLUCOSAMINE. It has been shown to reverse arthritis
and is more effective than the anti-inflammatory drugs being prescribed.

Read more about Glucosamine at:
http://www.TheHerbsPlace.com/glucosamine.html

An herbal remedy that has been used is YUCCA. This is a natural
anti-inflammatory herb and is sometimes called an herbal cortisone.

BURDOCK and HYDRANGEA are two herbs that help to reduce calcium deposits.
They've been used for things like heel spurs in humans. Sometimes a pet will
have calcium deposits and these herbs will give you a natural solution for
dissolving them. they also reduce uric acid levels in the blood.

SUCCESS STORY

FLEAS

"I know someone who puts a drop of eucalyptus oil on her dog's collar.
She said she could see the fleas jumping off the dog."
Michelle Alvarez

There are many essential oil blends made to repel fleas and ticks. I have
used them in spray bottles diluted with water to spray on and rub in. Be
very careful not to use essential oils without diluting in water or a
carrier oil. Essential oils are very concentrated and for small animals
they are very potent.

BEHAVIORAL/EMOTIONAL ISSUE

DR. DOUG EXPLORES THE IMPORTANCE OF EARLY BONDING
From: InternetPets.com

As a companion animal doctor with a year or two of experience behind me,
I've had plenty of time to discover my favorite moments in veterinary
medicine. Without a doubt, my first opportunity to bond to a new puppy or
kitten is the ultimate energizer.

The first few weeks in a new home are a time of joy, but are also critical
in determining this little ball of fluff's future, and perhaps even it's
fate. Sadly, the leading cause of death in our beloved companion animal is
unacceptable behavior. I believe the pet owner and veterinarian have an
opportunity to transform these instinct behaviors into obedience and love.

Some puppies never get a chance; their genetic makeup dooms them to a brief
existence marked by fear and aggression. The vital human-animal bonding
period passes without enough interaction with people. Young pups need a lot
of love and attention at an early age. Age 6 to 12 weeks is especially
critical in determining their future interaction with the human population.
For this very reason I am a firm believer in getting your young pets into a
new family as quickly as possible. Too much alone time in a cage can lead to
behavioral problems which are difficult to overcome.

Early and intense interaction with your new pup is a lot of fun, and can pay
huge dividends as they grow and become a vital part of your family.
Behaviors which may develop into serious, unacceptable actions are more
easily modified when these puppies are in their early learning period. Their
developing personalities are begging to be led in the right direction.

Puppyhood, with all its missing socks and well-gnawed shoes, is a joy that
no person should have to miss. In the next newsletter I'll explore a
different aspect of life as a young pet.

Dr. Doug Mohney practices veterinary medicine in Post Falls, Idaho. To ask
advice on medications, exercise, nutrition, or anything about your pet's
health, drop Dr. Doug a line at: doggydr@sisna.com

PRODUCT FOCUS

BRN-AV is an Ayurvedic herbal formula for the respiratory system. It is
used for lung problems, bronchitis, asthma, and emphysema. Sadly, with the
increasing toxicity of our environment, even pets are having respiratory
problems.

Herb Usage Tips:
We have used herbs and supplements with pets since 1982 and that was before
there was a market for "natural pet products." We've always adapted to the
pet. If you can administer in capsule/tablet form, that's great. If not,
open the capsule or crush the tablet and put it into food. You can also
brew the herbs as a tea and administer by dropperful or in water bowl. Some
of the herbs come in a liquid. Choose a product that will be easy to use
with the pet you are working with.
