I try to avoid taking a position on a subject about which I know little or
nothing about, but many concerned animal-lovers have taken a very strong
position against the Lautenberg amendment, which would force airlines to
retrofit their cargo holds, notify federal regulatory authorities before
shipping animals, and engage in extensive additional federal reporting,
allegedly to improve the safe handling of animal shipments. You can read
their statement and decide if you want to support their letter-writing
campaign against the pending legislation.

"Our cat, Juliet, had problems with digestion and bleeding from the anus.
I
