** DONNA'S COMMENTS **
If anybody is in the RICHMOND, VA area (Hanover, Goochland, Powhatan, or
Louisa counties) would you email me back? We're headed that way in a two
weeks and I have a couple of questions I'd love to have answered before we
leave. Thanks!
This is one of those stories that is incredible. You just never imagine
such things really happen....but they do. Be sure your pets wear a collar
with your phone number even if they are house pets. You never know when
they may get out.
HITCHHIKING FELINE RETURNS AFTER TWO-MONTH ROAD TRIP
Lapis, a three-year-old black-and-white feline from Colorado, is back at
home after stowing away on a truck and traveling 3,000 miles to Canada.
In mid-June, Lapis' owner received a call from a man who'd found the stray
in a small mining town in the Yukon Territory and called the number on her
collar. Two weeks later, Lapis was flown back home to Boulder--where upon
arrival, reports her owner, she ate a can of tuna and promptly took a nap.
Cats Incredible, eh?
Have a great week!

** SUCCESS STORY **
ALLERGY? CONSIDER YEAST!
"I have a beautiful 2-1/2 yr. old golden retriever who has food allergies,
particularly to yeast. I also suspect he has a gluten or wheat allergy as
well. His yeast allergy results in a constant severe Candida yeast infection
in both his ears, to the point of bleeding inside the ear canal, which he
then rubs, making it worse. The more yeast I fed him, the worse his ears
discharged the blood and pus-like materials, along with a VERY offensive
smell. I had tried several ear care products with no results.
My vet suspected an allergy, but, I did not have the money to pursue the
testing. I was tipped off on a vet bulletin board by a dog trainer about the
possibility of Sam's problem being a yeast allergy. Turned out the dog
trainer was right. I controlled my golden boy's allergy by eliminating all
yeast from his diet. I use a home-cooked diet made up of fresh vegetables,
brown rice, barley, chicken, and some seasonings. I also use a dry pet food
called Innova, produced by Natura Pet Products in California." Carol Ressler

SLIPPERY ELM
Slippery Elm derives its name because of its mucilagenous properties,
otherwise known as slippery properties. This herb is known to soothe and
heal mucous membranes in the intestinal tract. It is good for inflamed
bowels or stomach, and for diarrhea. It regulates the gastrointestinal
system. It is one of the ingredients of an herbal formula known as
"Intestinal Soothe and Build" which has helped many people and animals
with
intestinal difficulties. Read more:

PUPPY MILLS
What is a Puppy Mill? Most of us know we don't like them and they should be
stamped out. But I wonder how many of us really understand what awful places
they are. The folks at puppymillrescue.com are devoted to ridding the world
of them.
