** DONNA'S COMMENTS **
CIRCUS - I know this is a sensitive issue with circuses being part of many
people's childhood memories, but when you think of the treatment of the
animals....for me, there's not much good left of the memory. I remember the
one circus I went to as a child and we walked back where the animals were
kept. I petted the trunk of an elephant that was chained to a post and
looked into those eyes that longed to see the wild places of his own youth.
Barnun & Bailey is still at it and there's an event in the Atlanta area
that
includes only two animals, but I don't think a traveling circus is the place
for any animal. If you live in the area and would like to give your
comments, this is the place to do it on their website:

On a lighter note:
I always like a good pet story. It helps me to realize that pets are more
than just "pets" ..... they really have a purpose and some even have
a
mission while here on earth. Enjoy....
MISTY, SECRET AGENT CAT
Somewhere in the southwestern desert of the U.S. is a cat who is a vital cog
in the operations of an anonymous Department of Defense Research and
Development facility. Misty's particular skills are legendary, but until
now, a closely guarded secret.

EIGHT COMMANDMENTS OF FLEA CONTROL
Ask any companion animal caretaker who has waged a war against fleas--they
don't call them 'pests' for nothing. Now that we're deep in the heart of
flea season, The ASPCA National Animal Poison Control Center (NAPCC) urges
owners to put safety first when using flea-control products. Says the
NAPCC's Jill A. Richardson, DVM, "It could save the life of your pet!"
* Read all instructions on the label before using any product on your pet.
* Never use insecticide on very young, pregnant, debilitated or elderly
animals without consulting your veterinarian.
* Never use flea-control products that contain permethrin on your cats,
unless they are specifically labeled for use on domestic felines.
* Take care when using sprays, shampoos or mousse near your pet's eyes and
ears.
* If you're using a fogger or home-premise spray, remove all pets from the
area for the period specified on the container. Air out the household
before allowing your animals to return.
* Consider using insect growth regulators, such as lufenuron and
methoprene. Not only do these products help break the life cycle of the
flea, they have minimal adverse effects.
* Just because a product is labeled "all natural" does not mean it is
completely safe. Many such products--including those with citrus extracts
like d-limonene and linalool--can be harmful when used inappropriately.
* Observe your pet closely after using flea-control products; report any
unusual behavior to your veterinarian.
For more information, visit http://www.napcc.aspca.org/. The NAPCC, the
only animal-oriented poison control center in North America, offers an
emergency hotline--1-888-4-ANI-HELP--providing round-the-clock telephone
assistance.

EYE INFLAMMATION
"Among it's other very well known uses, an infusion of Basil (basilcon
vulgarae majus et ocimum) is really good for inflammation of the eyes,
works for us as well as our rabbits [and other pets]. Tried and tested!"

INTRODUCING A DOG TO A CAT
When introducing a dog to a cat, the question is really one of proper dog
training. Dogs usually want to chase and play with cats, and cats are
usually afraid and defensive. After all, the cat has a lot more to lose if
the relationship gets nasty. Once the cat is confident that the dog does not
pose a threat, then the opportunity opens for a wonderful friendship to
blossom. Learn more:

GLUCOSAMINE
The arthritis medications that are used by millions in this country are
frightfully dangerous. Even worse, they exacerbate arthritis. It doesn't
have to be this way. There is a completely safe, natural remedy that
stimulates healing with new cartilage growth to cover the surfaces of the
bone. It is called glucosamine, and it reverses arthritis. In general, all
forms of arthritis - rheumatoid, gouty, or arthritis due to trauma - become
osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis, the 'end stage' arthritis, progresses with
destruction of the cartilage that covers the articular surfaces of bone,
allowing bone to rub on bone. Read more.....

HERB USAGE TIPS:
We have used herbs and supplements with pets since 1982 and that was before
there was a market for "natural pet products." We've always adapted
to the
pet. Want more info on administering herbs to your pets?

HOW DOGS TALK WITH PEOPLE
Dogs use an eloquent range of body language to tell you what they want. Read
an article on how to decode the message by watching your dog's behavior. An
example in the article is this:
"..... another does a full-body dance, barks, and wets the floor whenever
his owner comes home. His message is, "You're number one in my book, and
I'm
peeing just to show that I know you're in charge."
That's one conversation I would want to prevent! LOL
