I hope everybody had a great Thanksgiving. With some extra time off (for
most folks) I expect that the pets got a bit more attention and some special
nibbles to celebrate the holiday. While you're baking during this holiday
time of the year be cautious about letting your pet get near bread dough.

Jill A. Richardson, DVM, of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC),
when bread dough is ingested, an animal's body heat causes the dough to rise
in the stomach. As alcohol is produced during the rising process, the dough
expands. Pets who've eaten bread dough may experience abdominal pain,
bloat, vomiting, disorientation and depression. An animal needs to eat only
a small amount to cause a problem, because bread dough can rise many times
its size. Please take care not to let Fluffy or Fido unsupervised in the
kitchen when you're baking this holiday season.

TIME TO TRIM THE TOENAILS!

Depending on your pet's attitude, you may not want to say N-A-I-L T-R-I-M
too loud. While some cats and dogs barely notice when you're trimming their
nails, others just plain don't like it and will let you know by squirming,
whining, or worse-growling or biting. By knowing beforehand the proper way
to do a nail trim on your pet, you may be able to save Kitty or Rover (and
yourself!) some distress.
