In your lifetime, try to be the person your pet thinks you are.

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why.-Unknown

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. - Abraham Lincoln

"Dogs need to sniff the ground; it's how they keep abreast of current events. The ground is a giant dog newspaper, containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news items, which, if they are especially urgent, are often continued into the next yard." Dave Barry

** DONNA'S COMMENTS **

For most of us, a love of pets has carried over into a
love for all animals. One of the issues I've had an interest
in is trying to purchase products that are cruelty-free.
That means they haven't been tested on animals, nor
do were the ingredients tested on animals. I especially
want to do this with cosmetics and personal care items....
I guess because it's so close to my skin :-)

This information is now available online and updated
regularly. I'm real excited about it and hope that some of
you are also. The site is a joint project between animal
welfare groups and cruelty-free companies. Check it out:
http://www.leapingbunny.org/list.html

It can be overwhelming to look at the list and think about
eliminating everything, and then you end up doing nothing.
Instead of looking at the big picture, pick 2-3 things that
you can change and begin there. It makes a difference --
and that's the key! We can't do all we want to do good in
life.....but the important thing is that we do something
good each day. Pick your battles and go in fighting :-)

Have a great week!
Donna

DIGESTIVE/COLON PROBLEMS

"Our cat, Juliet, had problems with digestion and bleeding
from the anus. I began using INTESTINAL SOOTHE & BUILD
to deal with it herbally. I sprinkle one capsule over her dry
food every morning. She has had no bleeding and her little
rear end looks very healthy (she used to have some slight
redness there, but that has gone away). She seemed rather
suspicious of the herbs at first but I think she has gotten to
like them. As a matter of fact I think she is becoming a real
herb lover. I brought home a fresh cutting of peppermint
and Miss Juliet went wild for it. It was very cute." S.F.H.

** BEHAVIORAL/EMOTIONAL TIP **

LIMITING DESTRUCTIVE PUPPIES
From TipWorld.com

Subscriber Christa H. writes, "HELP! Our six-month-old Rat Terrier
puppy is chewing holes in the carpet! I have some of that Bitter Apple
to spray on things that I don't want him to chew, so he never goes
back to the same hole--he just starts another one. I don't have the
money the buy enough Bitter Apple spray to coat the whole house. Any
ideas? He has plenty of toys, and he even has another adult Rat
Terrier to play with. When we're not at home, we keep the two dogs in
the kitchen (no carpet to chew in there), but we hate to keep him shut
up when we're home and it only takes a minute or two for him to do the
damage. Before this all started, we considered ourselves incredibly
lucky not to have lost a pair of shoes to the puppy; now I just wish
he liked shoes since they are a lot easier to replace than carpet. Any
suggestions you have would be greatly appreciated!"

It's perfectly normal to limit the privileges of a young dog. He has
demonstrated that he is not mature enough to be left alone in a
carpeted room, so it makes sense to keep him in the kitchen when
you're not around to stop him from eating your house up. Most dogs
under 1 1/2 must be given limitations on their freedom--they simply
haven't matured enough to earn the privilege of absolute freedom in
the house. Think of how things would be if you had an infant. You
certainly wouldn't just let him play in the living room while you ran
to the corner store. Think of the trouble he'd get into! Think of the
dangers! Give your dog time to grow and learn from you what is right
and wrong. In the meantime, give him as much exercise as possible to
get his puppy "ya-yas" out.

By the way, we've met more dogs that actually LIKED that Bitter Apple
spray than were repelled by it. There's a fortune to be made out there
if someone can just invent a non-toxic "keep off" spray that dogs
actually don't like!
