** A NOTE FROM Randal **
During this winter season let's remember our pets get cold too. Below is a
neat way to help some cats during the winter time. Also, if you plan to
move here is a nice article on how to move up to 6 cats. Glad I didn't have
that task waiting for me. Moving my two cats was experience enough. :-)
A WAY TO HELP CATS IN THE WINTER
During the cold winter weather, many feral cat colonies suffer in the
snow and ice. If you have old blankets, quilts, or other warm bedding,
this is a good time to consider donating it to your local TNR or feral
rescue group. Your local SPCA or shelter should be able to give you a
referral to a group. I'm sure they would appreciate it.

** HEALTH/HERBAL INFO **
FEEDING FROM THE TABLE
There's a lot that has been said about not feeding
pets from the people table. Their diet has to be
balanced to promote good health and adding
calories from the kitchen table is not going to end
well with their health.
Many pet owners end up with very picky eaters.
They start off by simply spiking meals with a different
tasting human food. After a period of time, NOTHING
tastes great to the animal without the high sensation
of the human food (tuna in cats .... fresh meat in dogs).
Rarely will the dog or cat eat more than a little pet food
as this continues and then you're feeding a non-balanced
diet for sure.
To get them back to a good diet, you'll need to add a
yummy tasting supplement or a high-powered vitamin
treat. You can also use brewers yeast sprinkled on the
food which is very appealing to most animals. Then you
can gradually decrease as they begin to enjoy their own
food more. Make sure you use a quality pet food and
"premium" doesn't mean quality. Read more on pet

It's hard not to share our food - we were trained to do
so as children - but it's not the loving thing to do when
it comes to pets.

DOGS EARS - Great Herbal Ideas
Used and Shared by one of our subscribers:
"To replace COMMERCIAL EAR POWDERS, I use baking soda with a few drops
of
wild oregano oil, tea tree oil, and peppermint oil mixed in. I put mine in
a small pint canning jar, filled it up with baking soda, added about 5 drops
of each oil and shook it up for a couple days to distribute the oils. The
wild oregano and tea trea are of course anti-microbial, anti-bacterial, etc.
and the peppermint gives that great fresh smell to possible foul smelling
ears, and the baking soda works to keep the ear canal dry and absorb odors.
Wet, heavy, hair-covered ears are the main culprit in dogs' EAR INFECTIONS,
so applying a little of this powder each day, sprinkled onto the underneath,
outer ear (not deep inside) works great. If you bath your floppy-eared
dogs, be sure to remember to place a small piece of cotton in each ear to
avoid water getting into them. Pull ears down gently around the chin when
rinsing to keep water out also.
For a LIQUID EAR CLEANER applied with a cotton ball or cotton swab, use
witch hazel with a few drops of tea tree and wild oregano added. This is a
good non-alcohol solution for dogs who have ear problems where the alcohol
cleaners may burn their sensitive ears.
Apply the liquid ear cleaner first, removing any excess wax and dirt, then
sprinkle with the powder. Some dogs require plucking the extra hair around
the underneath outer ear. You, your vet, or your groomer can do this. Only
pluck out what is easily removed however. Apply the powder before you do
this because: 1) It helps dry out the hair, making it easier to get a hold
of, and
2) It fills the pores of the ear where you are plucking so any infection
won't spread into open pores.
I also spray my dogs with a light mist of distilled water and lavender for
a nice smelling coat." Ginger
