** A NOTE FROM RANDAL **
Hello Everyone,
It's hard to believe July is here already. I think every year seems to go by more and more quickly. As we near the time of our country's celebration of Independence Day, I am reminded just how fortunate we are to be able to enjoy our freedoms of speech and press. With that thought in mind, I am asking you to consider signing the petition below to allow the words "Under God" to still be in the Pledge of Allegiance. Let's stop this encroachment on our personal liberties.

Dear friend,
We are RUSHING you this update because the Ninth Circuit
Court of Appeals just ruled the Pledge Of Allegiance
unconstitutional in our public schools!
The judges ruled that the phrase "under God" is a
violation
of the U.S. Constitution because it creates an "establishment"
of religion.
THIS IS OUTRAGEOUS!!! WE MUST TAKE ACTION!
Grassfire.net has just launched a nationwide petition to rally
hundreds of thousands of Americans as quickly as possible who
will stand up and say, "I Support The Pledge In Our Schools".

With it being so hot remember to drink your electrolytes if

HERB PILLOWS AS DOG PERFUME
To help combat pet odors and fight fleas, I fill my pets' pillows
with herb
straw. After my annual harvest, I trim and save the straw remains from all
my fragrant herbs, including lavender, scented geraniums, rosemary, and
lemon verbena. I dry the cuttings whole. If there is no access to the pets'
bedding, I put in a zipper. I then fill their pillows with a mixture of
dried stems. As the bedding is used, the straw is crushed and the herbs
slowly release their aroma. I have found this not only combats odors, but
also helps fight fleas. ---- Syd Brownworth, Central Point, Oregon

**SUCCESS STORIES**
HAIRBALL'S ARE GONE
"My personal experience with this food has been great!
I no longer am
wakened in the middle of the night to the persistent, "hack, hack,
hack...ggerrkk" of my wife's cat. This hairball, hair-log making machine
has
officially been defeated! We couldn't be happier. We had tried many of the
products available on the market to rid our Black Himalayan of this problem,
none of which has even come close to the success of the Flint River Ranch
Hairball formula. No more sticky pastes, stinky goops or messy tubes to
contend with. Now, I just feed her as normal and she gets assistance
naturally ... to help expel the excess hair that she's groomed off of
herself. Fred

** BEHAVIORAL/EMOTIONAL TIP **
DECORATING WITH DOGS BY Barb Cooke
Sent in by Lois Schneider
(Edited to Fit Length of Ezine)
Decorating when you have pets can provide unique opportunities to express
your own personal style and taste. Here are some tips I'd like to share:
1. Paw prints and nose smudges on glass doors and windows break up glare and
soften the light in a room.
2. Dog crates, when stacked three high, can add height to a room and pull
the eye up. If fastened securely to the wall, the top can provide a safe and
dramatic place for exotic plants or statuary that otherwise might be
molested
by your pets. An up light can make it a real focal point. Cats love to
inhabit the upper crates, leaving the lower ones for the dogs.
3. Old towels and blankets thrown casually on upholstered furniture can add
a wonderful homey, country-quilt look to an otherwise bland room.
4. Common smooth upholstery fabrics can look almost velvety when lightly
textured with pet hair.
5. Shredded or chewed books and magazines send a message to guests that they
are free to relax and feel at home.
6. There is absolutely nothing that makes a guest feel as welcome as three
friendly dogs hopping in his lap as soon as he sits down.
So throw away those videos by Martha and others, and express your own unique
tastes. Your home should reflect what YOU like!
SCRATCHING - Cats
For unwanted scratching, provide an approved scratching post or other item. Issue firm "no!"s on unapproved items. You may wish to spray Bitter Apple or Bitter Orange (available at most pet stores) on items that they are particularly stubborn about. Praise them and give a cat treat when they use the approved scratching material. Demonstrate how to use the post by (yes) going up to it and scratching it like your cat would. They will come over to investigate your scent and then leave their own.
Pepper (black, white, or cayenne) can be applied to furniture and plants to discourage scratching. This does not deter all cats. You can also cover areas with double-sided tape (sticky on both sides) to discourage unwanted scratching. (Always be sure to provide an alternative scratching item.)
In general, cats will either use a post a lot or never use it. The deciding factor can be the material that the post is made out of. It has to be fairly smooth (cats usually don't like plush carpet) and shouldn't be a material that their nails get stuck in. Once that happens, they may not use the post anymore. Natural fiber rope wrapped tightly around the post appeals to many cats. Some cats like plain wood; a two-by-four made available may work well. Other cats prefer the kind of "scratching posts" that are horizontal rather than verticle.
