In your lifetime, try to be the person your pet thinks you are.

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why.-Unknown

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. - Abraham Lincoln

"Dogs need to sniff the ground; it's how they keep abreast of current events. The ground is a giant dog newspaper, containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news items, which, if they are especially urgent, are often continued into the next yard." Dave Barry

HEARTWORMS AND TUMORS - THE HERBAL WAY

"I am writing to say thank you for making your heartworm remedy available on
the internet. Our dog A.J. who is 15 years old was diagnosed with
heartworms. Our vet told us that they could treat her with medication, but
that she was so old and weak that it would likely kill her. We went to the
internet to see if we could find an herbal solution. We followed your
recipe and A.J. feels better than she has in years. She is running and
playing again, where she was lethargic before. We also tried Pau D' Arco
for tumors that she had developed on her neck, back and tail. We were
amazed when all but one of her tumors disappeared within weeks. We will
take her in February for testing to see if her heartworms are gone." Jim T.

**TRAINING TIP**

EIGHT COMMON CAT HAZARDS

Taking precautions against hazards that threaten the typical feline will
help keep your household calm and your cat safe.

1. Remove tablecloths from unattended tables. New kittens will be
especially curious about what's up there on the table and will try to use
the tablecloth to climb up. The result could be broken china and crystal and
an emergency trip to the vet.

2. Unplug dangling cords. Some cats like to chew on cords. Until you know
for a fact that your cat isn't one of them, it's best not to risk electric
shock. Also, be alert to potential fire hazards-lamps can tip over while you
are out of the room, causing the shade to ignite and start a fire.

3. Cover garbage disposal switches. Natural climbers, cats usually find
their way to the kitchen sink sooner or later. Many have been known to play
with electric switches such as the one for a garbage disposal. Special
covers are available at hardware stores to help avoid disaster.

4. Keep drapery cords out of reach. It's a good idea to use childproofing
devices to wind up dangling cords-cats can strangle themselves by catching
their necks in the loops.

5. Close the dryer door. Cats love to explore, especially dark, quiet
places. Always check inside large appliances before closing their doors to
make sure your cat is not inside.

6. Make sure your screen door has a securing latch. Cats are safe
indoors; they are not safe outdoors. Don't run the risk that your cat could
slip out unnoticed.

7. Pack away precious breakables. Cats in a new home will explore. They
will jump on tables, cabinets, sideboards, and bookshelves to investigate
their strange domain, and they may accidentally knock over or break fragile
items and knickknacks.

8. Cover your furniture. If you don't want cat hair on your upholstery,
put an old sheet on your most enticing sofas and chairs. That way your cat
can enjoy the furniture along with you without shedding fur all over it.
Simply remove the sheet when guests arrive.

CHOOSING A DOG TRAINER
Too many dogs are given up after their normal, easily modifiable behaviors
are allowed to become problems. But it doesn't have to be this way. To
prevent your dog from becoming a sad statistic, take your dog-and your
family-to a professional dog training class. A good training class is a fun,
social activity that helps your dog become a well-behaved, safe, and valued
family member. This information will help you find the dog trainer and class
environment that best fits your budget and needs.

Why is training my dog a necessity?

As a dog owner, one of the first questions you may ask is, Does my new
companion need training? Yes, and so do you! Whether you are intentionally
teaching him or not, your canine friend is always learning-and this is true
not just for puppies but also for older, adult dogs. If you do not teach
your pet your rules, he will invent his own. Training allows caregivers to
safely and humanely control their dog's behavior. Positive training enhances
the bond between dog and owner, and helps ensure that your dog will respond
happily to your instructions.

** BEHAVIORAL/EMOTIONAL TIP **

CONSIDERING A PUPPY AS A GIFT FOR CHRISTMAS?
Christmas Day is not always the best time to bring a newcomer into your
household. The holidays tend to be a very hectic, crazy time. Days and
nights are spent entertaining family and friends, shopping, cooking and
enjoying the sites and sounds of the holiday season. There is very little
time to devote to the needs of a young pup. There are times when a puppy
is a great gift idea. Read more here:

WHAT YOU CAN DO IF YOU ARE HAVING TROUBLE AFFORDING VETERINARY CARE

Many pet owners, at one point or another, are faced with unexpected
veterinary bills. Veterinary medicine has progressed so far that now pet
owners have new, and often expensive, options for the care of their ailing
pets. Although the cost of veterinary care is actually very reasonable in
comparison with the much higher cost of human health care, an unexpected
medical emergency can present a major financial dilemma for an unprepared
pet owner.

The Humane Society of the United States recommends that, in addition to
preparing for routine pet-care costs, you regularly set aside savings to
cover for unexpected veterinary bills. Create a special "pet savings
account" and contribute money to it on a regular basis.
If, despite your planning, your pet incurs major veterinary expenses that
you have trouble affording, consider these suggestions:
