Hi Everyone,

Hard to believe August is here already and many of your children are making
plans to go back to school. Where has the year gone? It seems to fly by
faster every year, at least for Donna and I!

Many of you have been following along in our journey from AL to VA and our
search for land for a year and a half and then beginning our house building
project -- and most recently our decision not to move there because they
removed the trees behind the screened porch. We have been proceeding with
the project so we can complete and sell this home. For my wife, Donna, it's
just to great a heartbreak. Having had vitiligo and not being able to have
"fun in the sun" since the late 70's, it's been devastating. However, we
both know that when one door closes in life, another one opens. We believe
this home is for somebody else's dream and the website is now ready for us
to begin marketing it. If you know anybody moving to Central Virginia,

FINDING NEMO - WHAT ABOUT THE FISH?

"Finding Nemo," an animated movie about a search for a lost clown fish that
recently began playing in theaters, is causing a dramatic increase in demand
˜ especially among children ˜ for pet clown fish. More on this story:

A large number of children have recently been unintentionally killing pet
fish by flushing them down toilets after seeing or hearing about a scene in
the currently playing animated movie Finding Nemo in which a clown fish
returns to the sea via a spit basin in a dentist's office. More on this story:

MEXICAN GROUP BUYS RANCH FOR JAGUAR PRESERVE

The Associated Press Researchers with the Sonora preserve captured this
jaguar earlier this year and put a radio collar on it to track its
movements. Sonora acreage lies in heart of big-cat habitat.

A Mexican environmental group has purchased a 10,000-acre ranch to study and
protect the northern}ost colony of jaguars, an endangered cat that sometimes
wanders into Southern Arizona.

Located 120 miles southeast of Douglas, Los Pavos ranch lies in the state of
Sonora and in the heart of 3,000 square miles of wilderness, where an
estimated 70 to 100 jaguars live.

At least 25 jaguars in the colony - including females and kittens - have
been killed by poachers and ranchers in the past three years, biologists
said.

"This purchase will allow us to immediately reduce threats to the jaguar
from poaching and conflicts with livestock," said Oscar Moctezuma Orozco,
director of Naturalia, the Mexican nonprofit buying the ranch. "This is
going to be the first time a protected area is created because of the
jaguar."

EXPLAINING CAT AGGRESSION TOWARDS PEOPLE

Cat owners sometimes have difficulty understanding why their cats, who seem
to be friendly and content one minute, may suddenly bite and scratch them
the next. Aggressive behaviors are part of the normal behavioral patterns of
almost any animal species. Some of the many reasons why cats direct
aggression towards people are beca}se they: 1) are fearful and defensive, 
2) are redirecting aggression which was stimulated by something else (e.g. a
cat outside) onto their owners, 3) are playing 4) do not want to be petted
any longer, and/or, 5) view certain people as intruders in their territory.
Cat bites are seldom reported, but may occur more frequently than do bites
from dogs. Aggressive cats can be dangerous, so attempting to resolve a cat
aggression problem often requires assistance from a professional who is
knowledgeable about cat behavior. This handut will discuss only play
motivated aggression and the "don‚t pet me anymore'" type of aggression
because these types are generally more easily resolved.

WWII VET RECEIVES VALIANCE MEDAL FOR DOG

A submarine veteran of the Free French forces accepted a medal Monday in
honor of the crew's canine mascot.

Gaston Sanz, 82, reportedly the last surviving World War II veteran from the
submarine Rubis, accepted a replica of the medal presented 60 years ago to
Bacchus ˜ the first recipient of the National Canine Defense League's
valiant dog medal. The medal was buried with the dog in France.

"He gave us courage," said Sanz, who accepted the medal in a ceremony at the
Imperial War Museum.
