Hello Everyone,

Hope you all are making the transition away from summer OK. We are enjoying
the cooler weather and days that fall brings to the Blue Ridge portion of
Virginia.

In this issue, we are excited about the article on how to get cats outdoors.
Previously, I tried putting my cat on a collar but he began to fight it like
it was a noose. I gave up the idea. However, now I have some new things to
try based on the article below.

He needs exercise to help combat the diabetes and now it looks like I may be
able to take him for a walk after all! :-)

We have had some technical difficulties and sometimes duplicate emails are
being sent out. We are aware of the problem and we are trying to get it
resolved. If any of you know a good Per/CGl programmer please let me know.

ONCE-BLIND THAI STRAY GIVES NEW MEANING TO SEEING-EYE DOG

BANGKOK (AFP) - A stray dog has been given a new leash on life in Thailand
thanks to a veterinarian who has given the near-blind pup a pair of glasses.

"Srinuan," a six-month-old mutt who spent his dog day afternoons bumping
into tree trunks, fire hydrants and humans, was recently fitted with a pair
of prescription goggles, the Nation newspaper said Saturday.

It cited the canine-caring deeds of vet Kiatisak Rojnirand, who had the
dog's eyes checked and discovered Srinuan's visual impairment was similar to
humans and could be corrected with prescription glasses.

ORIGINS, SYMPTOMS OF DIABETES IN PETS SIMILAR TO THOSE IN HUMANS

MANHATTAN -- Humans have more in common with man's best friend than they
probably realize, according to an assistant professor of clinical sciences
at Kansas State University.

Pets such as cats and dogs are just as susceptible to diabetes as their
human counterparts are, said Thomas Schermerhorn of the College of
Veterinary Medicine.

He said warning signs of diabetes in pets include excessive drinking, or
polydipsia; excessive urination, or polyuria; and weight loss. In more
severe cases, Schermerhorn said, symptoms include vomiting or diarrhea.
