MOTHER DOG GIVES BIRTH TO 13 PUPPIES

MASON CITY, Iowa - It was not your average doggy childbirth. A dog gave
birth to 13 puppies in a delivery that started just before sunrise and went
on for hours.

By early afternoon, Copenhagen's Star Hunter, "Star" to the family, lay
surrounded by her 13 offspring.

Giggling and gently cradling a squirming pup, 7-year-old Rebecca Faught
proudly proclaimed, "Star just kept having more and more and more."

PET FOOD COMPANY PAYS TO CHECK SICK DOGS FROM RECALLED FOOD IN USA

A Canadian pet food company is offering to pay some veterinary bills
following the recall of a tainted batch of food.

ð More Deaths Linked to High-End Pet Food
ð Pet Food Possibly Linked to Bay Area Animal Deaths
 
Petcurean pet nutrition recalled all of its Go Natural brand product after
seven dogs that ate the food died. Three of the dogs were in the Bay Area.

Petcurean says the tainted batch may have come from a new plant in Texas,
and says it will pay for tests on some animals that ate the food. If you

is a common code of expression-a set of signals-that you can learn to read
easily. Indicators such as the look in your cat's eyes, the tone of her
voice, the position of her ears, and the motion of her tail can provide
important clues regarding your companion's feelings and intentions.

For starters, you can talk to your cat. Some people feel silly speaking to
cats, because they think animals can't understand them. Yet these same
people may feel comfortable carrying on long one-sided conversations with
infants. Cats do receive information from your conversation: praise,
comfort, and a sense of security.

AUSTRALIAN CAT SAVES OWNER'S HOME FROM FIRE

GOLD COAST, Australia (AFP) - An Australian cat saved its owner's home from
burning by meowing at the owner to call the fire brigade.

The ginger six-year-old, named Runty, raised the alarm after her owner left
a cane basket filled with papers on a stove in the Gold Coast resort area,
fire service officials said.

The woman had accidentally left the hot plate on while she worked on a
computer in another house on the property.

"(The cat) wouldn't shut up so I went around outside and said 'What's the
problem?' and then noticed the smoke was quite thick and billowing out the
back bedroom window up in the flat," said the cat's owner, who would only
give her name as Kym.
