Clownfish Popularity Still a Problem After Nemo Movie
The movie, "Finding Nemo," had a simple message: Fish are unhappy trapped
in tanks.
Yet did kids get the point?
As clownfish sell out across the United States, the answer seems to be: not quite. Children want their own Nemo.
Coral reef ecosystems, already one of the most threatened environments on the planet, face significant challenges even without meeting the demands of Nemo-loving children.
"We lost 15 to 30 percent of reefs in the last generation and we stand to loose up to 50 percent in the next 50 years," Huse said. "We
shouldn't be taking more pieces out for the aquarium trade."

Pumpkins for Pets?
by Robin Sockness
It's the time of year when we think about pumpkins and baking with them. Pumpkins usually only ever make an appearance during the months of October and November. The benefits of pumpkin warrant a year-round treat for your pet!
A half cup of pumpkin provides a quarter of the recommended daily allowance (RDA) of betacarotene, 10% of the RDA for vitamin C and a dose of heart-protecting potassium. If it's good for you, it's good for your pet!
Pumpkin is also used to treat diarrhea and is great for your pet's coat. A teaspoon of pureed pumpkin (no sugar or spices) tossed on top of your pet's meal is a special treat that is low calorie and high in fiber.
Have you ever thought of fixing a special pumpkin treat for your pet? Below is the recipe I made for Bandit and all his doggy friends.
Bandit's Pumpkin Bars
Preheat oven to 350°F
1 cup canned pumpkin puree (not the pie filling)
1/4 cup each honey and water
2 tbsp olive oil (any healthy oil will do)
1 egg
4 cups whole grain flour
1 tsp ground cinnamon 5 mL (optional, but good for blood sugar)
1/4 tsp baking powder 1 mL
1/4 tsp baking soda 1 mL
Whisk together pumpkin, honey, water, oil, egg and vanilla. Stir in flour, cinnamon, baking powder and baking soda. In the bowl, using your hands, knead until the dough holds together. Refrigerate dough for one hour. Divide dough into 2 equal pieces and flatten on a floured surface, cut to the size you find best for your pet, poke holes with a floured fork all over the surface. Place about 3-4 inches apart on an oiled baking sheet and bake until firm and browned.

Cats Prayer

Cats Prayer
Now I lay me down to sleep,
The king-size bed is soft and deep..
I sleep right in the center groove
My human cannot hardly move!
I've trapped her legs, she's tucked in tight And here is where I pass the night
No one disturbs me or dares intrude
Till morning comes and "I want food!"
I sneak up slowly to begin
my nibbles on my human's chin.
She wakes up quickly,
I have sharp teeth- And my claws I will unsheathe For the morning here
and it's time to play
always seem to get my way.
So thank you Lord for giving me
This human person that I see.
The one who hugs me and holds me tight
And sacrifices her bed at night!

Omega-3 And Your Pet
Until recently, the omega-3 fatty acid in dog food has largely been ignored. But now, scientists, veterinarians, pet food producers and consumers recognize omega-3's value.
Omega-3 fatty acids are a family of polyunsaturated fatty acids also identified as essential fatty acids (your pet's body can't make them, they must be consumed in food or by supplementation). Omega-6 fatty acids are also essential.
Foods like corn, corn oil, sunflower and safflower oil and meat such as chicken raised on diets high in corn based diets are high in omega-6. Omega-3 fatty acids are found in higher concentrations in fish, flax seed, flax seed oil, perilla seed and green leafy vegetables.
Omega-3 fatty acids are usually recognized as the "good" fatty acids,
helping to form cell membranes, aiding immunity, brain and visual function and
overall health. Nearly every cell in your pet's body contains and relies upon
these special fatty acids.
While omega-6 is essential for immunity, when an animal consumes too little omega-3 the omega-6 it takes in can provoke inflammatory diseases and compromise its overall health.
The nutrient composition of a pet's diet is critical: the food you provide is the sole source of nutrients for the animal. The fatty acids are as important as other essential nutrients.

Dog Camp Caters To Pooches - By Tiffany Maleshefski
Sue Simon and James Cribb operate the Sonoma Dog Camp - a day care facility for dogs.
One hundred dogs have successfully had their day. Sonoma Dog Camp, the Sonoma Valley's exclusive romper room for dogs, enrolled its 100th dog into its day program on Oct. 1, coincidentally its four-month anniversary. The 100th pooch is Luc, a standard poodle.
Sue Simon and James Cribb opened Sonoma Dog Camp at 1061 Broadway when they realized their own dogs, two very active bird dogs, needed lots of time to run and play.
