In your lifetime, try to be the person your pet thinks you are.

There are two means of refuge from the miseries of life: music and cats. - Albert Schweitzer

One reason a dog can be such a comfort when you're feeling blue is that he doesn't try to find out why.-Unknown

I care not for a man's religion whose dog and cat are not the better for it. - Abraham Lincoln

"Dogs need to sniff the ground; it's how they keep abreast of current events. The ground is a giant dog newspaper, containing all kinds of late-breaking dog news items, which, if they are especially urgent, are often continued into the next yard." Dave Barry

A Note From Randal
******************

Hi Everyone,

Hope all of you are doing well despite the record heat we are experiencing. We had gone out of town for nearly 2 weeks and came back to many of our plants showing signs of weakness.

I had asked someone to water the new plants but the older plants that should have been fine were greatly affected too. Just like plants our pets need lots of water and cooler temperatures during these hot days of Summer. In the "Pet Health Section" is some great information on protecting your pet(s) during these hot times. Please take a moment to read the information.

Thanks for letting others know about our sites and ezines.

Have a tail-wagging day!

Randal

Cool It! Summer's Heat Can Be Deadly for Your Pet - By Rebecca Simmons

Americans have a love affair with their cars—and their pets. During the summer months, however, the combination can be deadly.

Heatstroke might have killed a litter of kittens if Kim Intino, manager of HSUS's Animal Services Consultation Program, hadn't noticed their frantic movements while walking through a mall parking lot in upstate New York. The kittens, trapped inside a parked car on a hot, humid summer afternoon, were "literally throwing themselves against the car doors trying to get out." Their . . .

Oops! Do You Reward Bad Behavior? - From Krista Mifflin, Your Guide to Dogs.

One Of The Biggest Hurdles In Dog Training :

"Woof! Woof! Woof!" ... "Whiiiine ... Woof!"
Like thousands of other dog owners, when I would hear this, I'd get up to let the dog back in after a quick romp outside, or feed him, or let him out of the crate at night (as a puppy), or reach over to pet him if I thought he was scared.

In a short time, I wound up with a dog who would whine, bark, or howl for attention, whenever he wanted it. By petting him, talking to him, or opening the door, I taught him that he would be rewarded with something he wanted when he made a lot of noise.

What else are the commonly rewarded behaviors?

Cat Toys: You Need Them

Although cats generally have different play styles than their canine counterparts, toys are as much a necessity for cats as they are for dogs. Toys help fight boredom and give cats an outlet for their instinctive prey-chasing behaviors. And when you are the one moving the toy around while your cat fishes for it, chases after it, or jumps in pursuit of it, playtime becomes a bonding experience for you and your cat.

"Safe" Toys

Our mothers always told us "no playing ball in the house," but cats can usually participate in that forbidden exercise without . . .

Bones For Your Dog’s Teeth

One area of your dog that gets a lot of attention in conventional veterinary circles is their teeth. Owners are admonished to brush their animals teeth daily, teeth cleanings are advised regularly by veterinarians, and animals lose teeth to decay or root abscesses.

Why not improve your dog's dental health by providing healthy and nutritious bones.

“I had heard about Petfinder.com from a friend, so I started searching,” says Kelly Allison of Kansas City, MO. “What a wonderful and simple experience. I didn’t have to go through the heartbreak and sadness of seeing all of the animals in cages, knowing that I could just adopt one.”

She found Gus, a six-month-old puppy mill rescue. She emailed Boonville (MO) Animal Shelter and within days Gus was in his new home.

“My daughter and I couldn’t be happier,” Kelly says. “He is an absolute doll.”
