A Note From Randal
********************
We've been "gone" for a couple of months and are finally getting our feet back on the ground since our server crashed. This is going out through an alternative channel, but we hope to soon be sending this from our regular mailing list.
One exciting thing is that I've found a great new editor for this newsletter while I'm still working on getting things back together. Virginia Franks has been a pet person for a very long time and a personal friend since the early 90's.
I know you will enjoy getting to know her as she finds helpful and interesting information for you and your pets.
Have a great and healthy New Year!

A Note From Virginia
******************
Hi Everyone, My name is Virginia and I'm excited to
be the new editor of The Healthy Pet News. My goal
is to continue to provide you with quality information
for our pets.
I have been using natural products for my animals for
nearly 15 years. Currently I have 6 dogs and 4 cats.
All of them were throw-aways that I rescued
except 1 dog. Their ages range from 17 years old
to 8 months.
I am always researching and learning. I believe the more
we know, the more we can help our 4-legged family members
stay healthy.
If there is a topic you would like to see covered, drop me
an e-mail
Hope you enjoy this edition.
Virginia

Chocolate contains theobromine - a substance
toxic to dogs. Baking chocolate contains more
theobromine per ounce than semisweet chocolate,
which, in turn, contains more theobromine than
milk chocolate. While most lethal cases of chocolate
poisoning occur when small dogs eat large quantities
of baking chocolate, owners should nonetheless keep
their dogs and chocolates well-separated.

Socialization for puppies:
What is Socialization:
Socialization is basically the very lengthy (life-long)
desensitization process of exposing your puppy to every
new sound, sight, and situation possible. To eliminate any
adverse reaction and have your dog view these occurences
as normal, and non-threatening, and non-exciting.

Aggressive Behavior in Multi-Cat Households
When a cat is frightened or startled, its reaction
may be redirected to the nearest available individual
or object. In a multi-cat household, this target may be another cat.
Redirected aggression is swift and intense, and may begin a cycle
of persistent aggressive interaction. The spontaneous eruption
can occur between housemates that previously coexisted peacefully.
It may subside within moments but, more commonly, several days
or even weeks may pass before the housemates resume normal relations.
Sometimes the relationship between cats is permanently changed.

National Brands Recalled
Over the years, several national brand pet foods have been
recalled due to toxic mold in the grains used to make the foods,
most recently in the past 30 days due to Aflatoxin fungus found in the grains.
The concern over toxins is the reason Flint River Ranch purchases
its grains from major human food providers and not directly from
small, independent farms. Food/ingredient suppliers test and re-test
the grains, and we believe your and your customers' pets are worth
the extra time and cost to ensure the safety of all
Flint River Ranch ingredients.
