A Healthy Reptile
"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure."
Dietary needs and feeding schedules vary by reptile species, however, diet is of great importance for a healthy reptile.
Most require a daily diet of mixed fresh vegetables and fruits, although some, such as snakes, can go a long time between meals.
Reptiles can be herbivores, carnivores, insectivores, or omnivores, so it's critical that you are familiar with the diet and feeding schedule for your particular pet.
Water is a most important nutrient. No living thing can exist without water. Reptiles need ready access to a clean water source. Some prefer a mist sprayed into their living quarters or onto plants, while others will use a bowl.
Containers, which should be shallow enough for them to bathe in also, should be cleaned with soap and water daily and disinfected with vinegar weekly. Some reptiles need to bathe to shed their skin properly. Make sure the animal can exit the water bowl easily to avoid drowning.
