Dogs Deserve Better was founded by one woman who focused on the seemingly forgotten cause of chained dogs. There are more urgent matters for dogs, yes, but this kind of abuse although much more subtle, is no less insidious. They may not be in immediate danger of death. But death of the soul is a slow death, and as the site says, “they are dying out there, piece by piece, hour by hour.”

The Elephant Sanctuary in Hohenwald, Tennessee, is the nation’s largest natural-habitat refuge developed specifically to meet the needs of endangered elephants that was designed specifically for old, sick or needy elephants who have been retired from zoos and circuses. Utilizing more than 2700 acres, it provides three separate and protected, natural-habitat environments for Asian and African elephants.
